king’s bread – Desserts Recipe


For the dough  

  • 200 g margarine
  • 200 g sugar
  • 1 sachet vanilla sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 400 g plain flour
  • 100 g cornflour
  • 1 sachet baking powder
  • 125-250 ml milk
  • 50 g candied cherries
  • 80 g sultanas
  • 50 g currants
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • 50 g candied lemon peel
  • 50 g chopped almonds


  • butter for the tin
  • icing sugar for dusting

preparation time: approx.

20 minutes (plus baking time)


Step 1

Pre-heat the oven to 180 0C  (Gas mark 4, fan oven 160 0C). Beat the soft margarine with the electric hand mixer until frothy. Gradually add the sugar and vanilla sugar, and keep beating until the sugar has dissolved. Add the eggs one by one and beat.

Step 2

Mix the flour, cornflour and baking powder, sieve and gradually add to the margarine and sugar mixture. Stir everything with the milk into a smooth dough.

Step 3

Dice the cherries. Wash and pat dry the sultanas and currants, and mix with 1 tablespoon of flour. Stir everything together with the candied lemon peel and the chopped almonds into the dough.

Step 4

Grease a loaf tin (30 cm long), put the dough in and bake for approx. 65-70 minutes on the lowest shelf. Allow to cool. Before serving dust with icing sugar.
